A Milestone Reached

I’ve been reading, thinking, and journaling about the meaning of life for over thirty years. It’s my way of attempting to make sense of things.

I had never shared my written thoughts with anyone until the pandemic hit and the world shut down.

Sharing them wasn’t my idea!

Doug knew I aspired to write a book someday. During our last dinner together, he asked how my writing was going. When I said “terrible!” He seemed puzzled, and asked with whom I had shared it with.  When I said, “no one,” he replied, “Then how do you know it’s terrible?”

I thought about his comment for a long time, and finally decided he had a point.

This is my one-hundredth post.

It’s hard to share inner thoughts with others. It makes us feel vulnerable. At least, that’s how I felt when I hit the send button on the first few posts.

The positive side was restoring connections with people I hadn’t seen for years.

Sometimes we hold back from life out of fear of what others might think. The more personal the subject, the more we perceive to be at stake.

Upon reflection, I see the foolishness of that sentiment. Life isn’t about us. Rather, it’s about Us!

Sometimes I re-read what I’ve just posted and think, “Yikes, I shouldn’t have shared that!” Later in the week a friend will mention they enjoyed the post, giving me courage to continue.

So here we are, fifty-thousand words and a hundred posts later. Lately I’ve been thinking about what I’ve learned in the process.

It boils down to this: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Ferris Bueller was right all along!

Some weeks I have no idea what to write. With time, I discovered the best cure for that is to stop, look, and listen.

The benefit of slowing down and becoming more present to life obviously extends beyond the cure for writers block. It’s a good habit to get in to.

I plan to try some new things out  in the weeks ahead. I ‘d really be interested in your thoughts and impressions.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. A glossary of posts organized by subject (with links) can be found here: https://tim-coats.com/postings-by-subject/
